Ed Heavey has been fixing and building things for as long as he can remember. As a young child growing up in San Francisco, working alongside his beloved Uncle Mickey in a basement workshop, he learned to repair birdhouses and mailboxes. He learned how to build flower boxes and patio furniture and how to use all of Uncle Mickey’s prized tools. He learned about innovation, creating a workbench from a sewing machine cabinet. He learned about deadlines, working late into the night to finish holiday gifts. Most importantly, he learned about planning, patience and attention to detail. He learned about taking pride in your work, building something others could enjoy, something you could be proud of for a long time. More than 40 years later Ed is still building. Though the scope of work has changed, he’s still committed to the integrity of the lessons he learned as a child, quality craftsmanship built to endure and worthy of his name.

He built a loyal client base performing numerous custom renovations on his clients prestigious, but older, Marin County homes. Watching their home values rise with these renovations Ed began to purchase distressed homes. After completing extensive renovations he would sell the homes for profit. The success of these projects provided him with seed capital to develop new construction projects. He built several custom homes, refurbished a mixed use commercial property and purchased a high visibility lot where he built a retail and office building on a prime corner in downtown San Rafael’s dining and shopping corridor.[/cs_text][/cs_column][cs_column fade=”false” fade_animation=”in” fade_animation_offset=”45px” fade_duration=”750″ type=”1/2″ style=”padding: 0px;”][cs_text]Seeking a more balanced social culture and a better lifestyle for raising his two young children Ed and his wife Dawn relocated from California to Charleston in July 2000. After a brief period of settling in to their new home in Dunes West Ed took and passed the South Carolina Residential Builders exam and incorporated Twelve Oaks Construction and Development Corporation in September 2000. Initial projects included 4 custom built homes in the Dunes West subdivision in Mt. Pleasant, followed by the development of Peregrine Point, (upscale townhomes overlooking the scenic marsh of James Island). Subsequent projects included additional custom homes throughout Dunes West as well as “Waterford Landing” (a private cul-de-sac with waterfront lots overlooking the clubhouse of the Dunes West Golf Club). Other noted projects include 4 custom built homes in Beresford Hall (a prestigious gated waterfront community) Wild Dunes, Bulls Bay Overlook, Hamlin Plantation and Beresford Creek Landing.[/cs_text][/cs_column][/cs_row][/cs_section][cs_section bg_color=”transparent” parallax=”false” separator_top_type=”none” separator_top_height=”50px” separator_top_inset=”0px” separator_top_angle_point=”50″ separator_bottom_type=”none” separator_bottom_height=”50px” separator_bottom_inset=”0px” separator_bottom_angle_point=”50″ style=”margin: 0px;padding: 45px 0px;”][cs_row inner_container=”true” marginless_columns=”false” style=”margin: 0px auto;padding: 0px;”][cs_column fade=”false” fade_animation=”in” fade_animation_offset=”45px” fade_duration=”750″ type=”1/2″ style=”padding: 0px;”][x_custom_headline level=”h2″ looks_like=”h5″ accent=”true” class=”mtn”]Contact Us[/x_custom_headline][cs_text]Recognizing the need and opportunity in the emerging market of home renovation Ed has gone “back to his roots” and established CharlestonHomeworx in 2010.
